No practice or influence will be permitted which will militate against the attainment of the high Christian standards and ideals, and the character building of the students attending SASDA.
Before entry into SASDA, students and parents receive a copy of this document stating SASDA’s disciplinary policies and other important information. It is expected that this document will be thoroughly read by both parent(s)/guardian(s) and student, and used as a guideline for the student’s stay at this institution. You must sign the Declarations included in the Registration package.
All home work must be done on time. Students who fail to do so will be penalized.
The following are strictly prohibited :
Use of indecent and/or obscene language
Smoking / Vaping
Possession of obscene literature and/or photographs
Possession of and/or consumption of caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, Coke and Pepsi.
The presence of unclean foods, such as pork, shrimp, crab, etc. Students are asked to refrain from bringing these lunches to school as the SDA philosophy of education subscribes to health reform.
Possession of weapons.
Possession of electronic items, with the exception of cellphones and laptops, unless otherwise requested by a teacher.
Card playing and/or gambling.
Inappropriate public displays of affection (PDA) e.g. prolonged hugging and kissing.
The staff-room is for teachers only. No student is allowed there except with special permission.
The Prefect and Student Council system has been instituted to aid in school discipline.
No student should be insolent or disrespectful to a member of staff, school prefect or class prefect.
Students must not deface school property. There should be no littering. Students caught doing such will be dealt with in accordance with the discipline matrix (which is included in this handbook for your guidance).
Lost and found articles should be reported immediately to form teacher or the Office. The school is not responsible for lost property of students.
Students will not be allowed to leave the compound to purchase snacks or lunch. They are advised to bring these items to school or to purchase them at the school’s cafeteria, which is set up for their convenience.
The office phone is a business phone and is for official use only. Students are allowed to use the phone in the event of an emergency, in which case the student is required to pay $3.00 for a phone call. Students will not be called to the telephone during class time, except in an emergency. The office will take the message.
The school requires that students are regular and punctual in attendance, wearing the complete school’s uniform. Parents have the responsibility of ensuring that their children attend school every day. Attendance at all classes is compulsory.
When a student is absent for a day, or a number of days or any part thereof, a letter must be produced from the parent/guardian on the next occasion he/she returns to school. All excuses must be written in pen, on a letter size sheet and presented in a sealed envelope.
Legitimate absences shall be considered under the following conditions:
Death in the immediate family.
Illness of the student whereby the student must produce a physician's certificate if absences exceed three days.
Other emergencies or circumstances which must be communicated to the Principal via written correspondence, personal visitation by the parent / guardian, or by telephone.
Communicable illness after which students must submit a fit for school certificate from a medical practitioner upon his/her return to school.
If a student arrives at school after 8:30 am he/she is late and must sign the late register at the guard booth. The parents must inform the office and send a written excuse with the student.
During class-time, all students must be either in their classrooms or rooms designated for study.
Students should not indulge in shouting, horse play or running in the corridors or in the classroom.
No student is allowed to leave the classroom without the permission of the teacher.
No eating or drinking is allowed while class is in session.
No student will be allowed to go to the washroom during class time except in an emergency and where students suffer from physical disorders. For the latter, a medical certificate must be presented in advance. Students are not allowed to loiter on the steps or in the lobby area during class time.
Chewing of gum is not allowed on the compound.
