The School has a legal duty of care for the health, safety, security and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. This duty of care incorporates the duty to safeguard all pupils from subjection to any form of harm, abuse or nuisance. It is the responsibility of the school administration and staff to ensure that this duty is uncompromised at all times.
In performing this duty, we recognises that there can be no complacency where child protection and safeguarding procedures are concerned. The School therefore requires that ALL VISITORS (without exception) comply with the following updated policy and procedures.
All visitors to the compound will be required to park off compound.
All visitors must present their ID and log their visit at the security booth.
Authorised visitors will be issued a visitors badge and then directed to the office by security and must go directly there.
Please note that you must make a prior appointment before visiting the office. Unannounced visitors will be asked to make an appointment for a time when the teacher/Administrator is available.
Tuesday and Thursday (9:00am – 2:00pm) are the days assigned for parents wishing to purchase items (uniforms/books) at the office.
Requests for transcripts/recommendations can be made via email at southernacademy1953@gmail.com. The office will indicate via email when you can collect. The requested documents will be left at the security booth for collection.
Only parents/guardians or authorised persons designated by parents/guardians will be permitted to remove students from school during school hours. Please call the school prior to arriving so that the necessary checks can be made. ID's must be presented for confirmation.
Only parents/legal guardian are permitted on the compound to deal with disciplinary matters regarding their child/ward.
No visitor to the school should go to a classroom, the staff room or student washroom. Visitors are limited to the lobby only.
Security Officers have authorisation from the principal to refuse entry of persons to the compound.
NB: Visitors are prohibited from engaging in conduct which is disruptive or dangerous or in any way interferes with the normal operations of the school or with teaching and learning. Examples include but are not limited to profane language, making obscene gestures, fighting, making excessive noise, and being intoxicated. Threatening conduct directed towards staff/students by visitors, including but not limited to the examples above, are grounds for removal from the school premises, a report to law enforcement, and/or the restriction of future visitation privileges to the school.
Parents/guardians are always welcome to visit the school concerning their child/charge. Please note that it is advisable to make a prior appointment and to check with the security personnel before visiting the Office.
